The Toronto Maple Leafs fell to the Barrie Baycats on Wednesday night at Dominico Field by a score of 6-1.

With the loss, the Maple Leafs sit one-and-a-half games back of the Brantford Red Sox for the final playoff spot in the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL)

Three pitches was all it took for Barrie to take the lead as centre-fielder Canice Ejoh drilled a home run over the right-centre field wall, making it a 1-0 game in the blink of an eye.

Left-fielder Brad McQuinn chipped in with a bloop single over the head of Maple Leafs third baseman John Solazzo, cashing in another run off of Landon Leach.

Wilgenis Alvarado entered the game in relief in the third inning and surrendered a booming RBI double to third baseman Malik Williams that scored two runs, making it a 4-0 game for the visiting Baycats after just three innings of play.

Frank Garces was nothing short of spectacular for the Baycats, going seven shutout innings, allowing just six hits and striking out five batters.

Right-handed pitcher Julian Tymochko entered the game for the Maple Leafs in the eighth inning, after allowing the first two batters to reach, he responded with two straight strikeouts.

Tymochko however then issues three consecutive walks, forcing in two more runs making it a 6-0 game with just six outs remaining.

The Maple Leafs scraped across one run in the eighth inning on an infield single from left-fielder Ryan Dos Santos, but that was all they would manage, losing 6-1.

The Maple Leafs are back at it on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET at Jack Couch Park for a game against the Kitchener Panthers.
